Despite all that one achieves in life, there is a feeling of incompleteness, unfulfillment. The scriptures explain that to find lasting satisfaction and fulfilment one needs to look within.
The word yoga is derived from Sanskrit root yuj which means 'to join'. Yoga therefore is the path to join with the Self, the spiritual core of the personality. Every human being has three equipments - the body, mind and intellect. Hence the three yogas or paths of karma action, bhakti devotion and gnana knowledge are given to aid one in the pursuit of the Self. By following these paths, one eventually qualifies for the final stage of meditation which is the gateway to spiritual enlightenment, Self-realisation.
